About this Newsletter...

The Emergency Preparedness Newsletter is sent to users of the Washington State Critical Incident Planning and Mapping System (CIPMS). All public K-12 schools and over 180 public facilities in Washington state have access to the CIPMS which is used to provide campus security and local police and fire with instant access to your school’s safety and building information. To learn more about the CIPMS, please contact Bruce Kuennen from the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs (WASPC) at bkuennen@waspc.org. NEWS
WASPC's New Online Training Challenge

WASPC is pleased to announce the completion of a new on-line training challenge.  Developed by Incident Tactics, Inc., the challenges are available only through Rapid Responder, and only within Washington State.

Incident Tactics Logo

The challenges are designed to allow users to access appropriate information within Rapid Responder in a non-stressful, but realistic shelter-in-place scenario. To access the challenge, log in to Rapid Responder and go to any site to which you have access.  Click on the Regional Button (next to the search button in the upper right-hand corner).  Under Web-based information, click on "Incident Tactics Training Simulation". - A new window will appear with the Incident Tactics logo.  In the box marked “Choose From These Options”, click on "View Available Challenges".  There you will see the three “tracks” of the challenge.  You may choose to play the challenge as a facility manager, or as a police or fire responder.  After you click one of the choices, the challenge begins.  Follow the directions on the screen.

The challenge is designed to be generic.  When the program directs you to locate certain information, toggle back to your site in Rapid Responder (Alt-Tab) to find what you need as if the incident were occurring at your site.  If you don’t know how to find it, the challenge will show you how.

If you have questions or comments about this challenge, feel free to contact Bruce Kuennen at WASPC.  If you are interested in developing further challenges specifically for your facilities, please contact Bruce or David Nicksic at david.nicksic@incidenttactics.com.

National Sheriffs’ Association Endorses Rapid Responder

The technology behind the CIPMS, the Rapid Responder® Crisis Management System from Prepared Response, Inc., has received an endorsement from the National Sheriffs’ Association (NSA). This is the first official endorsement of a crisis management system from the NSA.

Over the past year, the NSA has conducted a thorough evaluation of Rapid Responder and Prepared Response. The NSA verified Rapid Responder’s effectiveness during emergencies through interviews with clients and first responders who have used the product.

WASPC Addresses SB 5097 Reporting for Schools

Senate Bill 5097, Laws of 2007 requires schools to report certain information to WASPC annually.  As announced in a letter to each School District Superintendent, this requirement can be met entirely within the administrative module of Rapid Responder.  The letter gives detailed instructions on how to enter the relevant data; those instructions can be found at the WASPC website, by clicking on the following link: SB 5097 - How to Report School Safety Information to WASPC .

The new features allow any facility to keep track of personnel, safety related training, drills and exercises, chemical inventories, and other information directly in Rapid Responder.  No other reporting to WASPC is required.  The letter also announces the new regional training schedule. (See schedule and web link in the left column.)
